A ten-minute walk-around

Tires, lights, the fluids under the hood and the view from the seat, once a month, in that order.

Warning signs, in plain words

The sounds, smells and feelings that mean a part deserves a closer look, and how soon.

// Who we are

A safety guide, not a workshop

DrivePath Safety is a free website about the safety parts of a car and the habits that keep them in shape. It is a brand of Consumer Response Media and is run independently of every maker, dealer and parts seller.

What DrivePath does

  • Explains six safety checks in walk-around order
  • Describes the warning signs and how soon to act
  • Builds a printable checklist for a trip
  • Sends seasonal safety tips by text, if you ask

What DrivePath does not do

  • Inspect, repair or service any vehicle
  • Sell or recommend parts, shops or brands
  • Diagnose a problem with your car
  • Pass anyone’s details to a business

// Know the limits

Some checks belong to a technician

A walk-around tells you a lot, but much of a car’s safety lives where only a lift and the right tools can reach. DrivePath is clear about where your part ends.

Brake parts behind the wheel

Pads, discs and lines are measured with the wheel off. Listen and watch the fluid; leave the rest to a shop.

Steering and suspension joints

Worn joints show up on a lift long before most drivers feel them. Mention any knock or wander.

// How we write

Four rules behind every guide

Plain words first

Every guide is written for someone who has never opened a hood. Where a technical word is unavoidable, it is explained where it appears.

Look before you worry

Most checks end with nothing to fix. The guides say what normal looks like, so a reading is easy to judge.

Clear about the limits

Each guide ends with the signs that call for a technician, and none of them tries to replace one.

Nothing to sell

No shops, brands or parts are named or ranked, and no company pays to appear anywhere on the site.

  • Brake feel
  • Brake lights
  • Wiper blades
  • Alignment
  • Coolant level
  • Battery terminals
